Discussion: Florya Aquarium in Istanbul

Greetings, dear readers! Today we will go to the amazing sea kingdom, which I have long wanted to see with my own eyes, and now I will share my honest review. Aquarium in Istanbul Florya(Istanbul Akvaryum Florya) I recommend a visit to everyone who loves the tailed, mustachioed and colorful inhabitants of the depths, however, the huge object will be of interest to lovers of other animals, but first things first.

Our trip to the Istanbul Aquarium began with a funny incident, generally as usual :) . In the afternoon, after visiting the fish market, we headed to the Istanbul Aquarium, or rather we took a taxi. We did not find accurate information on how to get to the desired object from point “A” on the Internet.

We said to the taxi driver: “Istanbul Akvaryum” and they took us…. I knew for sure that it took 9-10 km to get to point “B”, but who knew that there were TWO aquariums in Istanbul! :) Here's your first rake, Before your trip, study the route thoroughly.

Enterprising taxi drivers are in no way inferior to their fellow countrymen! He was far from a fool, so he took us NOT to the nearest aquarium, but out of town. It was Sunday and of course, according to the laws of the genre, we found ourselves in a huge traffic jam. I won’t voice everything that my friends said (untranslatable play on words), but we got to the Istanbul Aquarium in about 1.5 hours, having paid according to the meter...... :) The mood was pretty spoiled, but the goal was achieved! It was getting dark…..

There are two aquariums in Istanbul, Florya and Turkuazoo. I marked their locations and distances from each other on the map.

Very often you can find information on the Internet that can completely confuse tourists. Without going into details, many resources copy information from each other without checking it, thereby misleading readers. This is what happened with aquariums in Istanbul; completely different aquariums are designated at the same address.

Let me remind you that we are going to the Florya district of Istanbul, which is located on the shores of the Sea of Marmara. The Istanbul Aquarium was built in 2011, is located outside the city near Ataturk International Airport and is one of the largest aquariums in the world.

The Istanbul Aquarium meets all international standards and is equipped with the latest technology. The living conditions of the sea inhabitants are as close as possible to their habitat.

According to the brochure given at the entrance to the aquarium, the two-story complex consists of 18 thematic zones, including a rainforest zone. The total number of land and sea inhabitants of the Istanbul Aquarium is 15,000.

On the territory of the aquarium there are two 5D cinemas (fog, wind and water effects), a cafe, a restaurant, and souvenir shops.

There is a large shopping complex under the same roof as the aquarium.

And here is the main entrance to the Istanbul Aquarium. There are signs everywhere prohibiting photography and video recording, but few people adhere to the ban; they film both with cameras and mobile devices.

Unfortunately, I had no luck with photography; due to the large number of tourists, it is better to come to the aquarium in the morning.

There are separate pools where jellyfish swim,

starfish and other invertebrates.

The aquarium in Istanbul is very large; between the themed halls there are several cafes and one restaurant where you can try some Turkish dishes.

Dome aquariums with optical glass look very beautiful.

There is an underwater tunnel in the Istanbul Aquarium, but it is very small, in another aquarium - Turkuaza, the tunnel is 80 meters long.

In the thematic aquarium, the entire complex is divided into zones where marine life from different parts of the world is represented: the Black Sea, the Bosphorus, the Sea of Marmara, the Dardanelles Strait, the Red Sea, the Suez Canal, Antarctica, Gibraltar, the Panama Canal, the Amazon forests, etc.

There is a model of a submarine, upon entering which you will see through the windows the diverse underwater world of the Istanbul Aquarium.

The largest number of visitors gather near the huge aquarium with predatory fish.

The huge hall with the Amazon rainforest - Amazon Rainforest - is especially realistic. High humidity, hot air, giant trees and shrubs, waterfalls, all this will take you from the Istanbul Aquarium to the very wilds of the tropics. It is home to carnivorous piranhas, poisonous frogs, crocodile caimans, yellow-bellied boas and the world's largest rodent, the capybara. Amazing sight!

And finally, a photo with a piranha... oh, with piranhas. We spent only a couple of hours at the Istanbul Aquarium, which is very little for a complex of this scale.

At the very beginning of our excursion, at the entrance, we were pinned to the green wall and asked to smile, it didn’t hurt and was free, and when leaving the aquarium, we were so unobtrusively offered a souvenir photo with any of the four proposed backgrounds for $10. Well, where to go, I had to take it! :)

When we left the aquarium, it was completely dark and deserted. At the beginning of my story, I mentioned that we arrived by taxi, somehow I didn’t really want to return to the city in the same way, the amount turned out to be very ugly... We went to look for a ghostly stop. We only found a bus, but no one wanted to take us without tickets :).

My friends repeated difficult-to-pronounce, inarticulate phrases about Istanbul, its inhabitants and the marine inhabitants of the aquarium, and it all amused me very much! :) After fruitless searches, we still took a taxi, but we couldn’t return on foot.

You will learn about everything we saw in Istanbul in February in the article.

A huge disadvantage of the Istanbul Aquarium is the lack of direct public transport. You can get there without transfers only by your own car or taxi.

I offer you my short video from the Istanbul Aquarium, by the way, if you need licensed music to create a video, use the list in the video manager on the youtube channel.

Istanbul has entertainment complexes where both children and adults will find solace:

  • as well as the Ice Museum and many other entertainment complexes that operate both during the day and at night.

Florya Aquarium in Istanbul

The main aquarium of Istanbul is an entertainment complex located on the banks of Mramorny. It was erected in 2011 and from that time on it began to provide fierce competition to European and American aquariums. This is due to the fact that it meets all international standards, including the latest technical means with which to care for marine life.

If you decide to visit the Istanbul aquarium, then remember that the total number of marine and land inhabitants is more than 15,000, which is already impressive. However, the complex is famous not only for the presence of an aquarium. Istanbul Florya Aquarium- this is also:

  • 5D cinemas,
  • and cafe,
  • and restaurants,
  • and souvenir shops,
  • and unique architecture,
  • and a large shopping complex that will appeal to both children and adults.

The Florya Aquarium in Istanbul occupies about 22 thousand square meters. m. In this case, the volume of water is at least 6800 cubic meters. This once again confirms the gracefulness and scale of the object. If the space for marine life is 6800 square meters, then only 6000 are allocated for visitors. However, this space is sometimes not enough, since visitors come here from all over the planet.

As for the species diversity of aquarium animals, among them deserve the greatest attention from visitors:

It is worth noting that in the legendary aquarium all conditions have been created so that everyone can see the life of underwater creatures from the inside. Istanbul Florya Aquarium is considered a “smart construction project”. Near each water tank there is an electronically controlled display. It is through this display that you can obtain absolutely any information of interest regarding the inhabitants of the artificial seabed.

If you get tired from walking, you can rest at almost every corner of the complex:

  • Cafe Coffee Corner,
  • Fun Foundation,
  • Robert's Cafe Sütiş,
  • Juice Planet & Girandola Ice-cream is direct confirmation of this!

Moreover, in the cafe you can not only enjoy themed dishes and European cuisine, but also read interesting information brochures about the inhabitants of the aquarium.

Among other things, the Istanbul Aquarium is ready to delight tourists with an amazing tropical forest and an abundance of observation platforms, each of which offers views of predators and mammals.

What is famous about the Florya Aquarium in Istanbul?

If you decide to visit Floria aquarium, then know that it consists of absolutely all the thematic zones that are inherent in Oceania. Thus, you will be able to make a short mini-trip, starting from the Black Sea, the Dardanelles and the Bosphorus, ending with the Gibraltar, Red and Mediterranean seas.

The oceanarium is famous not only for its variety of thematic areas, but also for its numerous halls, including submarine, forest and coral halls occupy far from the last place. All these areas are designed exclusively in a tropical style, which will appeal not only to children, but also to adults.

What is the aquarium famous for, and what attracts thousands of tourists here? This list can be made endlessly. Therefore, we will only characterize some advantages:

  • So, the first advantage that a water park has is the opportunity to get to know marine life better: to see how the inhabitants of the depths are fed, to trace and identify the behavioral characteristics of each individual in its natural environment.
  • The second advantage why people from all over the world come here is that it is here that they have the opportunity to take amazing photographs. Moreover, you can take unique photos both independently and with the help of professional photographers who work on the territory of the establishment.
  • Exact copies of models of sea canals, as well as an exact reconstruction of the oldest boat in the world, are another mystery that true connoisseurs of the unknown want to solve.
  • Those who have never seen corals have a unique opportunity not only to enjoy their beauty and uniqueness, but also to follow the process of artificial cultivation of the latter.
  • If the price at the Istanbul Aquarium seems low to you, then remember that there is also a whole range of services provided here, for which you pay separately. For example, every visitor has the right to order the “Diving in a tank with sharks” service. Do you appreciate and love thrills? Then swimming with sharks is exactly what you need!
  • The Amazon forest is a definite advantage of the aquarium. This is due to the fact that exclusive inhabitants are concentrated here, such as piranhas, caimans, boa constrictors, agi (poisonous toads) and a number of other not friendly, but cute representatives of the fauna.
  • Have you arrived at a complex with children who love to explore everything on their own? Fortunately, there is a way out! Go to a real submarine where this is allowed.

Where is the complex and how to get to it

Address of the Florya Aquarium: Aqua Florya Alisveris ve Yasam Merkezi Şenlikköy Mah., Yeşilköy Halkalı Cad. No:93, 34153 Bakırköy/İstanbul, Türkiye

How to get to Istanbul Aquarium- the most common question among travelers. However, few people know that this issue is far from the most important, which is due to the short distance of the complex from the city airport. In short, you can get to the aquarium center by any available transport, such as:

  • by taxi,
  • personal transport,
  • train,
  • city bus.

Of course, taking a taxi is an expensive option. This is understandable, because charging is done according to the meter, and the distance is not small. Thousands of tourists arriving here from different parts of the world prefer to get to their destination by train. The entire trip takes only 35 minutes, and the cost will not upset even the most demanding and biased tourist. The only drawback is that upon arrival at the station square you will need to walk about 15 minutes (in the opposite direction).

For those who are experiencing difficulties, they can easily correct the situation on their own. To do this, you just need to contact the complex’s call center and find out detailed information. There is another option: go to the official website (www.istanbulakvaryum.com), where an experienced Russian-speaking online consultant will answer all your questions.

Ticket price

As for the cost of tickets, it varies somewhat, which is due to the preferences of visitors. Price fluctuations can range from 19 to 100 Turkish lira. On the official website the prices are as follows:

Rules for visiting the aquarium

Allowed on the premises:

  • pet the stingrays,
  • take pictures with your own camera,
  • stay in any zone for an unlimited amount of time.

It is not necessary to take warm clothes, since the complex is equipped with a temperature control system. Near tanks with predators, you should not touch the water with your hands (when keeping fauna representatives open). Another rule is a strict ban on self-feeding of marine life.

Go into the underwater world of mystery and magic, as millions of people have already done, and you will definitely be satisfied!!!

A lot has been written about Istanbul. A LOT has been written about the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Top Kapi, Taksim and Istiklyal, about the top tourist destinations.

But on a rainy day in January, what to do?

We decided to go to one non-standard, but interesting place - the Aquarium (as the Turks call it). In Russian - oceanarium.

And I want to tell you a little about it, in case you also find yourself there and want to visit.

Aquarium in Istanbul Florya(Istanbul Akvaryum Florya)

There are many ways to get there; I read about them before the trip. But it was raining and we chose a taxi. The drive from Sirkeci station is about 40 minutes. Not close. It will cost approximately 50-70 liras.

But be careful. There are two aquariums in Istanbul. Say your name or show it on paper to the driver, because... Not everyone speaks English. I would say rarely, who knows in a taxi. Again, in my opinion, it is better to call a taxi from the hotel to avoid incidents. So, say the name, because... I read stories on the Internet about how cunning taxi drivers took people to a park they didn’t need, but which was more distant. Although, again, if we were brought to another aquarium, I think I would not be upset and would have looked at it.

The Istanbul Aquarium occupies 23 thousand square meters, parking on their territory is designed for 1,200 spaces. 64 huge reservoirs hold 6,800 cubic meters of water. The aquarium became home to 15 thousand different inhabitants of land and water (more than 1,500 different species). The route takes 1.2 kilometers and passes through 16 regions - from the Black Sea to the Pacific Ocean.
Also in the complex you can take a fascinating walk through the tropical forest. The complex has two 5D cinemas; each room accommodates 15 people. Anyone can feel themselves in the thick of things. Effects such as fog, wind, rain or swaying chairs enhance this feeling.

The interaction begins immediately at the entrance. This is an interactive map of the world, where an audio guide tells you about the upcoming excursion. The lights are also interestingly colorful in different rooms

Time flies absolutely unnoticed and excitingly

At the entrance we took an audio guide for 3 liras, who told us everything about the fish. and so on. And we didn’t just walk and think what kind of ice was this in the middle of the room, but with a smart video)))

In the middle of the hall there is a model of Noah’s Ark, in which you can also walk, look and touch. Children are incredibly interested!

There is a computer next to each pool where you can find out additional information about the fish or the sea.

Although there are signs everywhere asking people not to put their hands in the waters of the fish, people still stick their hands in!

A piece of the Grand Bazaar with its flavor is built right along the route.

To be honest, this pool attracted and fascinated me for a long time.

At first it seemed small, but then we realized that it went much deeper. Near it there are special soft steps where you can sit and watch the life of the inhabitants. I miss such a place at home, where I can come for half an hour, look at calm fish and get back to normal after hard filming

a lot of small portholes with jellyfish and all sorts of fish I’ve never seen before

many thematic rooms, for example dedicated to Troy

From one room the aquarium opens onto a glass corridor, where an unexpected and gorgeous view of the Marmara sea opens up.

from it you go out to the cafe area where you can eat. But we didn't stop there

Hall dedicated to the construction of the Suet Canal

There are several passages with pipes that you go through.

And also portholes, which you can enter and see how fish look up through the water.

This is the view

And this hall shocked me too. There is a piece of glacier in the middle.

You can touch it. There are already holes in it even by hand

The hall is dedicated to Antarctica, as well as what will happen if the ice melts.

Some kind of insanely beautiful hall. I don’t understand what I’m talking about anymore

The area of sunken ships. Really scary. There are some sounds, grinding noises, something is beating in the boxes outwards, light, darkness... In general, it’s impressive

as well as the hall of Captain Nemo's ship

And the mysterious hall of the tropical jungle. It's really dripping with sweat, it's very humid and very strange.

and at the end there he sits. large beaver or nutria. Don't know. But you can't touch him!

At the exit you will find a huge souvenir shop

And also, at the entrance everyone is filmed on green chromakey, like for free. At the end you are offered a Photoshop of this photo, with a fish background set to your taste. We decided and bought this photo as a souvenir.

I’ll be honest, we’ve seen a lot of aquariums, and I can’t say that they personally make me wildly delighted. But I can safely say that I would return to this place more than once!

Description

The territory of the aquarium is 22 thousand square meters, the volume of water in the tanks is 6,800 cubic meters, which indicates the scale of this project. A separate large area (about 6,000 sq.m.) is provided for guests; more than 15,000 land and sea inhabitants are represented. Among the most famous: sea arapaima, tetraodon (ball fish), spotted garden eel, amphiprion (clown fish), lemon shark, moraines, stingrays, etc.

In the aquarium you will have a unique opportunity to look at their life “from the inside”, since the necessary conditions for natural habitat have been created for this. The presence of tanks of various shapes (dome, cone-shaped, square) allows you to create the illusion of a seascape.

Near each water container there is a convenient electronic display, thanks to which you can easily find the information you are interested in. The staff of the Istanbul Aquarium made every effort to make guests feel comfortable: several cafes and restaurants (Coffee Corner, FunFondü, Juice Planet & Girandola Ice-cream, Robert's Cafe Sütiş), comfortable observation platforms, a souvenir shop, two 5D cinemas and even real tropical forest. A special advantage is availability of an elevator and special paths for people with disabilities. There is also the Turkuazoo Aquarium in Istanbul, you can find information here.

The first thing that catches the visitors' eyes is decorating an aquarium based on a theme. You can make a mini-trip, starting from the Black Sea and ending with the Mediterranean. Among the thematic zones are the following: Black Sea, Dardanelles Strait, Bosphorus, Aegean Sea, Gibraltar, Sea of Marmara, Suez Canal, Red Sea, Antarctica, Mediterranean Sea, Panama Canal, Eastern, Western Central and Atlantic, as well as the Pacific Ocean. Separately, it is worth noting four more halls: a submarine, a cave (stalactites, stalagmites), a coral and a forest area, decorated in a tropical style.
