Do I need a visa for Mallorca?

Yes, Russians need a Schengen visa to visit Mallorca. If you do not have a valid Schengen multi-visa, then you need to obtain a Spanish visa.

Unfortunately, by the time of the trip to Mallorca, our Schengen visas had already expired, and Masha had never had one before. In addition, during the previous applications for a Schengen visa, we have never gone through the biometrics procedure (fingerprinting and photographing), which means that this was waiting for us ... So, let's go get visas and talk about our experience of obtaining them.

You can apply for a visa to Spain in Moscow at the Spanish Consulate, and through visa centers, and even with delivery to your home or work through.

However, we were not in Moscow and there was no desire to go specially to Moscow with a small child to get it, and then receive it. We were lucky - in our city there was a visa center vfs.Global accepting documents for a visa to Spain.

But before applying for a Schengen visa, you must first buy air tickets, book hotels, arrange insurance, take pictures and prepare all the documents.

We purchased tickets in advance at a very good sale on the site Aviasales

Hotel reservations in Mallorca

When planning a trip, we made a travel itinerary around Mallorca by rental car. Accordingly, we booked not one, but three hotels - in Palma Nova near Palma de Mallorca in the southwest of the island, in Playa de Muro near Port de Alcudia in the north and in Cala de Or in the southeast ...

All hotels are booked the best prices through the wonderful search engine RoomGuru

Spain insurance

A Schengen visa requires health insurance with a coverage of at least 30,000 euros and a fifteen-day supply after the end date of the trip. We always arrange insurance online on the site. Specify the country ("Spain" or "All Schengen countries"), the number and age of travelers and dates of the trip.An additional 15 days will be entered automatically in the policy. The insurance policy for all three cost us less than 20 euros, and its execution took 5-7 minutes.

Photo requirements for a Spanish visa

As I already wrote, the photo requirements may vary slightly at the consulates different countries the Schengen zone.

To apply for a Spanish visa, a photograph is required not just with a light background, but with a white one. In normal professional photo labs, where photos are printed on documents, they should know this. The photographer immediately asked us - what kind of Schengen visa do you need a photo for - there were no problems. The rest of the photo requirements are standard - 3.5 x 4.5 cm, color, matte, borderless, oval and corner, head size from crown to chin ~ 3 cm, face occupies 70-80% of the photo, etc.

List of documents for a Spanish visa

Below is an approximate list of documents that you need to provide to obtain a Schengen visa to Spain. But before processing the documents, be sure to check the official up-to-date information on the website of the Spanish Consulate. We submitted documents to the vfs.Global visa center.

  1. Completed application form for a Schengen visa. It is better to fill it out according to the sample posted on the website of the Spanish Embassy. We requested a multiple entry visa for a year.
  2. Passport valid for at least 3 months after the end of the trip and at least 2 blank pages. Sometimes photocopies of all pages of the international passport and photocopies of issued Schengen visas for the last 3 years are required.
  3. Copies of completed pages of the internal Russian passport.
  4. Flight tickets or other proof of itinerary (train tickets, printed itinerary on a map when traveling by car). Printed by us e-tickets from the site Aviasales arrived without question.
  5. Proof of residence: printed hotel reservations or an invitation from residents of the country. As we have already said, some consulates require confirmation of 100% payment for hotels and a fax on the letterhead of the hotel confirming the booking. But for a Spanish visa, the requirements are not so strict. Printed out by the reservation of our hotels from the RoomGuru website also proved to be sufficient.
  6. An insurance policy issued in just 5-7 minutes also came up.
  7. Certificate from the place of study or work on the position held, the leave granted for the duration of the trip and the average monthly salary (on company letterhead). It is desirable that the salary is not less than 1,000 euros in ruble equivalent. We have an LLC, so I wrote a certificate for myself and indicated the necessary salary. Lena was written in the questionnaire that she was a freelancer.
  8. Solvency confirmation. If you are not working, cannot get a certificate from work, or the certificate indicates a lower salary (and sometimes in addition to a certificate from work), a bank statement on movement is required Money for the last 3 months. In addition to the movement of funds, funds of approximately 50-70 euros per person for each day of the planned trip should be available on the account. If there is not enough money, then a sponsorship letter is printed from the person sponsoring your trip, with the provision of his documents confirming solvency. We attached bank statements to the documents with the movement of funds for the last 3 months and the amount on the account at the rate of about 70 euros per person for the entire trip. Some banks give such a certificate immediately, and in some you will have to order and wait for it up to 2 weeks. Don't delay!
  9. Confirmation of intention to return home. Usually, such documents are Certificate of Employment and round-trip air tickets. But sometimes additional confirmation is required in the form of documents for a car, real estate, marriage and birth certificates for children ... We did not provide anything other than air tickets.
  10. Documents for the child. For one-year-old Masha, we additionally submitted her birth certificate with a copy and notarized mutual permission to leave the child with the second parent.
  11. Color photograph 3.5 x 4.5 cm - 1 piece that meets the requirements of the consulate.

The cost of a Schengen visa to Spain

A Spanish visa costs 35 euros (the official visa fee of the Spanish consulate) plus the vfs.Global service fee - about 20 more euros. Children under 6 years of age are exempt from paying both the visa fee and the service fee. Accordingly, we paid a little more than 100 euros for the two of us and Masha, connecting an additional SMS notification about the status of the review. We received a copy of the service contract and a receipt for payment.

Application procedure and biometrics

Submitting documents for a Spanish visa at the visa center was extremely simple and fast. No pre-registration is required. We arrived at the visa center with a prepared package of documents. There was one person in front of us - they waited only five minutes. After studying and receiving all the documents by the employee, we paid the visa and service fee, we were invited to the biometrics procedure. Biometrics was taken a little longer - each finger must be applied to the scanner quickly and with a certain pressure, they were redone several times. If the skin on the fingers is very dry, moisten with a special lotion.

It remains to print the received envelope and find out with excitement: whether visas are pasted into the passports and which ones ... We were given a multi-visa, but instead of the requested year, only for 6 months. Well, it's still better than a refusal or a short-term
